Two Problems That Stumped Everyone for 2000 Years

Greek mathematicians could find the area of any shape with straight sides. A triangle, a pentagon, a rectangle — no problem. But a circle? They could only approximate it. They knew the area was proportional to the diameter squared, but the exact constant (π) sat just out of reach.

And velocity: they could compute average speed over a trip — total distance divided by total time. But what is the speed at one specific instant? At any single instant, you travel zero distance in zero time. That is 0/0, which tells you nothing.
